Imagine if you could go back in time and capture the personal stories of Revolutionary War or Civil War veterans. Imagine what they saw and experienced in those world changing moments. So much has been lost that can never be recovered. Our generation has a unique opportunity to make sure that does not happen to the veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam and more recent wars. Yet these stories are still slipping away on a daily basis as these warriors silently march into history.

The Witness to War Foundation is driven by this sense of urgency and has captured hundreds of stories that would otherwise have been lost, but it is time to take the mission to the next level.

The Witness to War Foundation has never before sought funding and has been supported exclusively by its founder and a few ‘friends of the Foundation.’ But in order to dramatically increase its efforts to Preserve more stories while there is still time, the Foundation is seeking a small number of financial partners who have a deep passion for the mission and who seek an opportunity to convert their financial success directly into something that will have truly meaningful value for future generations.

Funding will be used specifically to:

  • Preserve: Hire a fulltime executive director and small staff to conduct interviews, organize volunteers across the country, consolidate content sitting on shelves across the country, and take the Foundation to the next level. Candidates for the role might be recently returning combat veterans from Iraq or Afghanistan.

  • Honor: Hire more full or part time editors to cull the best stories from the interviews to make them available to the public. Enhance the website to drive greater value for more people.

  • Educate: Develop educational materials linking the dry pages of history with the stories of the men and women who were there in order to increase understanding and appreciation for these great sacrifices.

The Foundation is led by an accomplished entrepreneur with a purity of purpose and a personal philosophy that a charity should be lean, highly focused, generate outstanding results for the time and money invested, and should never sacrifice its mission. The founder will continue to provide leadership, resources, infrastructure, funding, and his time as the chief volunteer.

If you share our passion and have enjoyed financial success or represent a foundation that might provide a grant, contact Tom Beaty to review the Witness to War Strategic Plan.

Although many veteran interviews have been captured across the country, the videos often languish on shelves or in shoeboxes, missing the opportunity to honor these veterans by sharing the stories with future generations. Part of the Witness to War mission is to become a collection point and presentation vehicle for these stories.

The website is scalable and the backend database that serves up the videos is built on an enterprise platform capable of hosting tens of thousands of videos. Content Partners provide professionally captured video either in raw or edited formats. The Foundation edits and posts them, providing full credit to the partner in an agreed upon format. The Foundation can also develop custom landing pages for our partners that can be integrated into their own websites.

If the stories are worthy of Preservation, they are worthy of sharing in order to Honor and Educate.

Contribute Your Experiences

If you are a combat veteran, thank you for your service. We are interested in hearing your story.

We perform interviews in the Greater Atlanta region, attend reunions in other areas, or will visit a city in order to interview multiple veterans at one time. We can also help family members or supporters set up and conduct their own interviews with specific advice, guidance, and best practices.

We are very interested in displaying in-theater war photos, particularly photos of combat, the aftermath of battle, and other unique aspects of war. We also collect unique memoirs or other materials. If you would like to see them displayed for future generations and credited to you, please send us copies or scanned images.

To discuss scheduling an interview or providing photos or materials, please contact:

We also have an interviewer in the Washington, D.C. area. If you or someone you know would like to be interviewed in that area, please contact Jon Keen at [email protected].
