She joined the National Guard in college, then decided it seemed like a good career. While at Officers Candidate School, Dianne Butts took inspiration from an officer who told her about the three strikes she had against her.
After getting her commission, Dianne Butts became a logistics officer. Her first assignment was in Japan, where she fell in love with the culture, despite the dated attitude toward women by her Japanese counterparts.
Dianne Butts aced the PT test while she was in advanced courses for administration at Fort Benjamin Harrison. More personal milestones would come soon, the birth of a daughter and the founding of a public service sorority.
