Art Morin

WWII | 727th Bomb Squadron (Heavy), 451st Bomb Group, 15th Air Force

The Ploesti oil fields were dangerous for American airmen. Many German fighters and much flak. The first time B-24 gunner Art Morin flew there, his aircraft was the only one from his formation to return. (This interview made possible with the support of STANLEY T. KOCZUR.) (2:20)
It was basically a suicide mission. B-24 gunner Art Morin remembers that they were told at the briefing that half the aircraft would probably run out of gas. Was it cold on those bombing missions? Oh yes, says B-24 gunner Art Morin. It could be 50 degrees below zero and if any part of your electrically warmed clothing malfunctioned, you were vulnerable to frostbite. (This interview made possible with the support of STANLEY T. KOCZUR.) (3:09)
Art Schultz

Korea | 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division

The Army told him he was going to be a combat engineer, but when Art Schultz got to Korea, they told him he was in the infantry and gave him a rifle that didn't work. Soon the BAR man was gone so that's what he became. (4:59)
It was just another hill in Korea, but when Art Schultz was firing his BAR in the assault, a sniper got him right through the front of the neck. Back stateside and recovered from his wound, he enlightened a Major who was a little upset at the lack of a salute. (6:54)
