Duwayne Balk

Growing up in a small town in Wisconsin, Duwayne Balk was looking for some more discipline in his life, so he joined the military as a combat medic. Basic and advanced training was challenging, but it prepared him for his deployment to Da Nang, Vietnam. (9:04)

As the 95th began to get settled in Da Nang, they started building tents and getting some semblance of a base going so that they could take on patients. As an OR tech, Balk assisted doctors during the various types of procedures that went on at the base. (7:50)
