COMBAT STORIES FROM World War II

Charlie Bell | 565th Squadron, 389th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force - Army Air Corps

8:13   |   It turned out he was color blind so Charlie Bell could not go into pilot training, but he flew 35 missions as a waist gunner on a B-24. As Allied forces advanced across Europe, the bombers paved the way for the ground troops. He remembers a mission with an unlucky squadron at a lower altitude and another time when they had to land at a special runway for damaged planes.
